MCT expresses sympathy to Mawio editor The Executive Secretary of Media Council of Tanzanian expressed sympathy to the managing editor of Mawio, Simon Mkina, following the government decision to ban his newspaper for two years.

Government urged to rescind ban on Mawio The government has been urged to rescind the two-year ban it has imposed on Mawio newspaper as the order contravenes the country’s constitution and the Media Services Act of 2016 which basically does not empower the minister for information to mete out such punishment.

costecnominees2012More contributions have been received in support of the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2012. The Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) has contributed TZS 10 million,  Finca -TZS 5 million,  Eastern Arc Conservation Endowment Fund - USD 3,000 , Regalia Media-USD 1,500 and Vita Foam TZS 1 million and 40 mattresses.

Receiving the contributions on March 15, 2013, the chairperson of the organizing committee of EJAT, Kajubi Mukajanga, thanked all those who contributed towards EJAT. He disclosed that the event’s budget was TZS 202, 703, 500.

Finkanominee2012He named other contributors as Tanzania Communications and Regulatory Authority (TCRA), Tanzania Media Fund (TMF),  Public Service  Provident Fund,  Sikika,  John Hopkins University, Said Salim Bakheresa (SSB), AMREF,  Bank of Tanzania (BoT),  Media Owners Association of Tanzania (MOAT) and Media Council of Tanzania (MCT).

arknominee2012EJAT is an annual event where journalists are rewarded for outstanding performance. This is the fourth time the event is held from 2009.

Vitanominee2012ejatDuring EJAT one journalist is also rewarded for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism and this year will be the second time a journalist is honored for outstanding life achievement.
