The organizing committee of the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2011 has received a donation of shs 3,000,000 from the Executive Solutions Ltd to facilitate the event.
The Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Aggrey Marealle, presented the contribution to the Regulation and Standards Manager of the Media Council of Tanzania, Pili Mtambalike at a brief function held at MCT’s offices.
Marealle said he felt personally touched with media because of interaction of his family with the media.
He said that his father, the Paramount Chief Thomas Marealle, after graduating from Cambridge University in the UK in 1946, became the first African General Manager of the Tanganyika Broadcasting Corporation which was broadcasting in Kiswahili and English.
He also said that his brother, Teddy Marealle who worked for PrintPak which printed the Daily News was a cartoonist of popular cartoon strip named “sokomoko”.
He pledged continued support and to work closely with the media and MCT.
On her part, the MCT’s Regulation and Standards Manager, who received the donations on behalf of the EJAT organizing committee, expressed the EJAT’s unreserved thanks to Executive Solutions Limited for the donation.
Apart from MCT, the other organizations that make up the organizing committee of EJAT include Tanzania Media Women Association (TAMWA),Tanzania Sports Writers Association (TASWA), Media Owners Association of Tanzania (MOAT), Association of Journalists Against Aids (AJAAT), Journalist Enviromental Association of Tanzania, (JET),HakiElimu, Tanzania Media Fund, John Hopkins university, Tanzania National Parks authority (TANAPA), Media Institute of Southern Africa – Tanzania chapter (MISA-Tan) and Tanzania Editor’s Forum(TEF).
