It’s EJAT Day…. President Kikwete to grace the occasion

President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete will on Friday 30, 2012 grace the annual gala night of rewarding

journalists in the country for outstanding performance.

Over 400 invitees are expected to attend the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2011, to be held at the Diamond Jubilee in Dar es Salaam.

The event will be broadcast live by TBC 1 Television and TBC Taifa Radio

Seventy two nominees picked in 19 categories will be awarded certificates while the winners will in addition, fetch trophies and prizes.

This time the trophies are special made with the names of the winners and their categories inscribed.

Representatives of diplomatic missions, members of parliament and sponsors of EJAT are among the invitees to the event which is the third since 2009.

In 2009 EJAT attracted 304 entries, in 2010 over 400 entries and in 2011 the event attracted 772 entries.

According to the event’s progamme, the President will award trophies, prizes and certificates to the overall winner and the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is being offered for the first time in recognition for professionalism in journalism.

There are three nominees in this category.

The president will also present certificates to sponsors of EJAT and later address the audience.

The EJAT categories are Economic and Business Reporting, Sports and Culture, Environment, Health, Children, HIV/Aids. Good Governance, Gender, Telecommunications, Science and Technology, Domestic Tourism, Conservation of National Parks, Malaria, Photojournalism and Best Cartoonist.

There is also an open category for creative excellent journalistic work which does not fit in any of the listed categories.

The nominees were picked a panel of judges led by veteran editor Wencelaus Mushi who was the chief judge.

Other members of the judging panel were Attilio Tagalile, Edda Sanga, Yusuf Omar Chunda, Pili Mtambalike, Pudenciana Temba, Mwanzo Millinga, Bernadina Chahali and Anaclet Rwegayura.

Nominees for Radio are  Grace Kiondo (Radio Zenj FM); Mwamini Andrew (TBC- Taifa); Tuma Dandi (Mlimani Radio);Gervas Hubile (TBC Taifa); Noel Thomson (Afya Radio FM); Latifu Matimbwa (TBC Taifa);Abel Onesmo Mwende (Clouds FM); Abdallah Majura (Sports FM); Adedius Mkwage (TBC Taifa); Dorice Kaunda (TBC Taifa); Alex Magwiza ( TBC Taifa); Joseph Bura (TBC Taifa) and  Beatrice  Nangawe (Sunrise Radio FM).

Nominees for EJAT 2011 overall winner are  David Azaria  (Habari Leo); Neville Meena  (Mwananchi) Joseph  Bura(TBC Taifa) and Polycarp Machira(The Citizen).

Nominees for Lifetime Achievement are Ben Kiko, Edda Sanga and Fili Karashani.
