MCT bids farewell to “a friend”

The Media Council of Tanzania has bid farewell to the outgoing Secretary of the Norwegian Embassy, Veslemoy Lothe Salvesen.

Speaking during a luncheon on June 18,2012 , the Executive Secretary of MCT, Kajubi Mukajanga described her as a friend of the Council and the media fraternity as a whole.

He said Velsemoy or 'Ves' as she was fondly referred to, would be remembered greatly for her assistance in promoting and improving good governance.

On her part, the departing diplomat who started as journalist in her home country said she was very happy to use her past experience in discharging her duties in the country.

Speaking on her relations with the MCT she likened it to that of married couple, sometime it gets bumpy and went through marriage counseling.

“We always found good reasons for this marriage to continue”, she added

She acknowledged that she learnt a lot about the media through MCT adding that her country is proud to support it.

The Norwegian Ambassador to Tanzania Ingunn Klepsvik, who also attended the luncheon said of Veslemoy, “we are going to miss her…she is a great example and professional.

As for the Council , which her country,  Switzerland and Sweden are funding, she said “Iam impressed with what you people are doing. It is a tremendous job to strengthen the media in this country”.

MCT presented the  departing diplomat  and her husband some gifts which include her portrait drawn by an artist, a kitenge cloth and a scarf and a Makonde curving of  Maasai  fighting a lion with a spear as a special gift to the husband symbolizing him as a protector of his wife.

She is leaving the country after completion of a three year tour of duty.
