New MCT Board meets for the first time The newly elected Governing Board of the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) held its first meeting on February 13, 2018.
MSA case slated for hearing March 13 at EA Court of Justice A case filed by media stakeholders at the East Africa Court of Justice, challenging some articles of the Media Services Act of 2016 is scheduled for hearing on March 13, 2017.

ngcz2012Media practitioners and stakeholders from all over the country will converge in Dar es Salaam for two days

from Monday 24, 2013 to attend the annual ethics symposium and the annual General Nation Convention of the Media Council of Tanzania.

The theme of the symposium is the Role of Media on Combating Hate Speech and Extremism.

According to the symposium schedule, Justice Mark Bomani, the former Chairperson of the Ethics Committee of MCT will be the official guest for event.

The question of media self regulations will also be discussed during the symposium.

 Veteran journalist and columnist, Makwaia wa Kuhenga will present a paper entitled Why the Tanzanian Media should Fight Escalating Sectarianism and the Executive Director of the Union of Tanzania Press Clubs (UTPC),  Abubakar Karsan will chair  during the presentation while Dr.  Bashiru Ali from the University of Dar es salaam will moderate the discussion.

Another veteran journalist, consultant and trainer, Ndimara Tegambwage will present a paper entitled Why Media Self Regulation in Tanzania and Dr. Ayub Rioba of the  School of Journalism and Mass Communications of the University of Dar es Salaam, will moderate the discussion.

The NGC the highest body of the Council will be held on Tuesday 25, 2013 during which delegates will receive the Narrative Report for 2012 of the Council’s Executive Secretary and the financial audited report for the year.

The Convention will also receive the 2013 Work Plan and Budget of the Council and appoint the body’s External Auditor for the period ending December 31, 2013.

Among the highlights of the meeting will be the reaffirmation of commitment to media self regulation and presentation of certificates of MCT membership.

Most delegates from up-country are expected to arrive in Dar e s Salaam for the two most important events in the MCT calendar year on Sunday June 23, 2013.

The last NGC which was the 15th was held in Zanzibar on June 20, 2012. It was preceded by the professional ethics symposium.
