Govt urged to increase efforts to find missing journalist   With the disappearance of Azory Gwanda, a journalist reporting for Mwananchi newspaper entering the third week with no sign of his whereabouts, the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) and four other civic organizations have strongly appealed to the Government to double efforts to find the missing scribe.

MCT pleads with security organs to safely deliver missing journalist The Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) has urged security organs to ensure that journalist Azory Gwanda who is reported to have disappeared for over two weeks is found safe and sound.

rafiiA member of the Governing Board of the Media council of Tanzania Rafii Haji Makame has been

appointed Director of the Zanzibar Information Services (MAELEZO). His appointment was made by the President of Zanzibar, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein.

Rafii who until his new appointment was Director of the Voice of Tanzania Zanzibar has been member of the MCT Governing Board since June, 2011 In the Board,   Rafii is a member of Ethics Committee which adjudicates on complaints raised by the public against media outlets.

His new appointment reported by the Zanzibar Leo newspaper of August 14, 2013 is with immediate effect.

In a congratulatory message to Rafii, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Council, John Mireny said he learnt with great pleasure of the momentous Presidential appointment to the position of Director of the Zanzibar Department of Information Services

He said ‘MCT, having known and worked with you at its highest and prestigious governance apex, the Governing Board, strongly believes you are ready for such a challenge. You have the skills and experience necessary, and will make a terrific effective leader’.

With this new glory, shall come more challenges and obstacles in life ahead. Face them with same courage and determination, and success will keep flowing in, Mireny said. “With your serious efforts and sincere dedication, I am sure you are set to succeed. Congratulations!” he said and adding that “on behalf of the MCT and the substantive MCT-ES Kajubi Mukajanga (right now on safari!), I once more express my joy on your new post. May you have a wonderful experience and achieve big feats.

The Acting Executive Secretary was emphatic that Rafii would not fail in the challenging assignment adding that he wished the new executive position is only a stepping stone to a successful public service career!

Rafii has  vast experience in media. He has served in various capacities in the Isles including Deputy Director of Zanzibar Information services, Registrar of Zanzibar Broadcasting Commission and Acting Executive Secretary Zanzibar Broadcasting Commission.
