New MCT Board meets for the first time The newly elected Governing Board of the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) held its first meeting on February 13, 2018.

KESI iliyofunguliwa na Umoja wa Klabu za Waandishi wa Habari Tanzania (UTPC) na kampuni ya Hali Halisi Publishers Limited, wakipinga baadhi ya vipengele vya sheria ya Huduma za Vyombo vya Habari 2016, itatajwa kwa mara ya kwanza Februari 9, 2017 mbele ya jaji,Jaji Joaquin de Mello, imefahamika leo.

Katika kesi hiyo namba 2/2017, walalamikaji wanadai kuwa baadhi ya vifungu vya sheria hiyo vinakandamiza uhuru wa habari na uhuru wa kujieleza na vinakiuka Ibara ya 18 ya katiba ya nchi.

Wakili Edwin Hans wa Mwanza ambaye yupo kwenye jopo la mawakili saba wanaowawakilisha walalamikaji katika kesi hiyo, amesema leo Januari 26, 2017, kuwa amepokea hati ya kuitwa mahakamani hiyo siku ambayo kesi itatajwa.

Jopo la wanasheria linalowakilisha walalamikaji ni pamoja na Fulgence Massawe, Jenerali Ulimwengu, Jebra Kambole, Francis Stolla na Mpale Mpoki.

Walalamikaji katika shauri hilo wanadai kuwa Sheria ya Huduma za Vyombo vya Habari ina kiuka Ibara ya 18 ambayo inatoa haki kwa kila mtu kuwa na uhuru wa maoni na kueleza fikra zake, kutafuta, kupokea habari bila ya kujali mipaka ya nchi, uhuru wa kufanya mawasiliano na haki ya kutoingiliwa katika mawasiliano hayo.

Ibara hiyo ya Katiba pia inatoa haki kwa kila mtu kupewa taarifa wakati wote kuhusu matukio mbali mbali muhimu kwa maisha na shughuli za wananchi na pia kuhusu masuala muhimu kwa jamii.

Baadhi ya vifungu katika sheria hiyo vinavyolalamikiwa ni pamoja na 7 (2) (b) (iii) (iv) and (v), 7 (3) (a), (b), (c), (f), (g), (h), (i), (j),8, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 50, 52, 53, 54 58 na 59 vya sheria ya Huduma za Vyombo vya Habari Na. 12 ya 2016. Mwisho.
