The Ethics Committee of the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) meets tomorrow Friday, February 24, 2017 under its Chairperson retired Judge Juxon Mlay to hear a complaint filed by Bishop Dr. Alex Malasusa of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania against Mwanahalisi newspaper. The arbitration will be held at the MCT board room from 2:00 pm.

The Bishop alleges that MwanaHalisi newspaper in its April 25 – 01 May 2016 edition published an article which he defamed him and thus he is asking the Ethics Committee to direct the paper to retract the alleged defamatory contents and apologize to him.

Bishop Dr. Malasusa complaints are centered on articles published by the newspaper which claimed that the Bishop was having an affair with somebody’s wife.

MCT is a non-statutory self regulatory body that promotes professional and ethical conduct of the media. Mediation and Arbitration is a core activity of the Council and through its Ethics Committee it hears complaints brought by aggrieved members of the public against the media.
