The monitoring of ethical and professional conduct of Tanzania's print media is one of the core activities implemented by the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) as part of its four-year Programme's Strategy, which extends from 2012 to 2015.

MCT has identified four key areas for monitoring, the first and most important being the print media's ethical performance and the status of the freedom of the media in Tanzania.

The Council sees this as an essential-even mandatory-activity that has to be carried out continuously.
