MCT condemns shooting of Lissu

The Media Council of Tanzania has condemned the shooting of Singida East Member of Parliament, Tundu Lissu.

The MP was sprayed with bullets as he headed to his Dodoma residence for a lunch break after the morning session of the National Assembly on September 7, 2017.

The Executive Secretary of MCT, Kajubi Mukajanga said in a statement to the media issued on September 11, 2017 that the Council joins other media stakeholders and supporters of freedom of expression to condemn the barbaric, heinous and cowardly attack and pray for quick recovery for Lissu.

After the attack Lissu was rushed to Dodoma Regional Hospital for treatment and was later transferred Nairobi, Kenya for further treatment.

Mukajanga said that Lissu is one of the MPs who has distinguished himself as defender of human rights and freedom of expression.

The Council joins all Tanzania to console and support to Lisu’s family and pray for his quick recovery.

“The Council is hoping that state organs will apprehend and take appropriate legal measures against the perpetrators of the inimical attack against democracy and peace in our country”, said Mukajanga.
