The Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) was established in response to the liberalization policies of the early 1990s, which led to a surge in media outlets. Founded on June 30, 1995, by the media fraternity as an independent, voluntary, and non-statutory regulatory body, it officially began operations in 1997. Initially focused on addressing ethical concerns through mediation, its role expanded to include training on ethics and professionalism to bridge the gap between media expansion and qualified practitioners. The Council also operates research centers in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, supporting journalists, scholars, and students. As its activities grew, MCT became an alternative to government-controlled media regulation, ensuring press freedom and high professional standards.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
