Mukrim makes history as first Zanzibar Online Journalist to Win Overall at EJAT 2023

In a groundbreaking moment at the 15th edition of the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2023, Mukrim Khamis Mukrim of KTV TZ Online became the first online journalist and the first from Zanzibar to win the overall prize.
The award, presented during a gala night at Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam on September 28, 2024, was handed over by Deputy Speaker Hon. Mussa Azzan Zungu.
Mukrim received a trophy, certificate, and a dummy cheque totaling TZS 3 million for his outstanding work. This historic win marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Tanzania’s journalism, especially recognizing the growing impact of online media.
Other notable winners include Imma Rashidi Mbuguni of Majira, Sanula Renatus Athanas of Nipashe, and Adam Gabriel Hhando of CG FM, who were honored in the Open Category for print, radio, and TV respectively.
Mohammed Hammie Rajabu of Habari Leo and Mercy Yasin Mbaya of Azam TV were recognized in the People with Disabilities category.
Several contestants shone across multiple categories, including Julius Maricha Maricha of Mwananchi, Anna Peter Mbuthu and Irene Mwakalinga of TBC, Sanula Renatus Athanas of Nipashe, and Hamis Makungu Hamis of Pangani FM.
Mukrim himself was a double-category winner, further solidifying his place as a standout in Tanzanian journalism.
