‘Expose journalism students to practical training’

The Executive Secretary of the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT), Kajubi Mukajanga speaks during a strategic meeting with lecturers of journalism from colleges and universities in Tanzania.

Students studying journalism at colleges and universities in the country should be exposed to practical training on professional ethics.

This was one of crucial elements which emerged during a one day strategic meeting held in Tanga on May 14, 2019.

The meeting which was organized by the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) attracted lecturers of journalism  in  colleges and universities in Tanzania.

The participants discussed and shared experience and knowledge on common ethical transgressions committed in the media.

It emerged from the discussion that journalism students are inadequately exposed to practical realities of observing professional ethics.

Participants noted that journalism students are subjected to theoretical knowledge on media ethics rather than practical.

The meeting unanimously agreed to subject students to practical exercises that will engage them in identifying ethical transgressions commonly experienced in the mainstream media.
