EJAT overall winner collects prize money from MCT

Hilda Amedhastone Phoya one of the overall winners of the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2019 has collected TZS three million from the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT).
She was presented a cheque for the amount by the Human Resources and Administrative Manager of the Council, Ziada Kilobo, on March 8, 2021 at the new Council offices in Tegeta, Dar es Salaam.
For emerging overall winner, Phoya who is a TV presenter for Azam Media in addition to certificates and trophies, she was entitled to that amount of money provided to overall winners by the Media Council to facilitate pursuance of further studies.
Presenting the cheque, Ms Kilobo congratulated Phoya and wished her more success.
Phoya is now pursuing a master’s degree at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) of the University of Dar es Salaam.
Phoya was a fresh graduate from SJMC when she won the overall sport alongside Halili Habib Letea a 2015 graduate in Statistics and Economics of University of Dar es Salaam.
To win the overall spot in the 2019 EJAT, Phoya had submitted entries of stories used by Mlimani TV- on three categories Business, Economy and Finance; Children reporting and Road safety.
Letea working for Mwananchi Communications Limited publishers of The Citizen and Mwananchi to win the overall spot, emerged top in three categories – Oil, Gas and Mining Governance; Data Journalism; Education reporting which he also emerged as a runners up.
