Heads of Journalism Departments from Universities discuss DEFIR course outline

The Media Council of Tanzania has convened a high level engagement meeting for heads of journalism departments of universities to deliberate on a course outline based on the Dar es Salaam Declaration on Editorial Freedom, Independence and Responsibility (DEFIR).
Heads of journalism departments from seven universities discussed success and challenges of elements and aspects of the DEFIR course outline they had adopted and implemented.
The Executive Secretary of MCT, Kajubi Mukajanga presided over the one-day deliberations held in Bagamoyo.
The heads of departments who attended the meeting are from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC), Tumaini University (TUDARCO), St Augustine University of Tanzania, Iringa University (IUCO), Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM) Teofilo Kisanji University (TEKU) and Open University (OUT).
This meeting follows a consultative meeting organized by MCT in 2019 for heads of the journalism departments from the university which discussed and developed the course outline on DEFIR.
Veteran journalist and publisher, Jenerali Ulimwengu who was a member of the Think Tank engaged by MCT which produced DEFIR presided over the meeting which developed the DEFIR Course outline.
