MCT redistributes guidelines on journalists’ and elections

The Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) has redistributed guidelines on journalists contesting for political positions in elections.
The Council released a statement on December 10, 2022 attached with the guidelines entitled Journalists and Elections –Frequent Asked Questions.
The Council pointed out in its statement that of late, a heated debate was generated on the validity of journalists seeking political positions in elections and on defeat return to newsrooms to resume their professional duties.
A circular containing the guidelines was issued by the Council in August 2020 before the General Elections held that year.
The Circular elaborated on the issues that journalists should follow when they vie for political positions through elections.
“This has recurred in the just concluded national elections of the ruling party – Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM)”, MCT noted in its statement.
MCT, insists that the guidelines it issued before the 2020 General Election on Journalists and Elections is the professional position.
The Council has implored the heads and stakeholders of media to go through the link below to better understand them.
