East Africa Press Councils launched in Arusha

 

History has been made here with the launch of the East Africa Press Councils at the seat of the East African Community in Arusha.

The East Africa Press Councils (EAPC) whose objective is promoting regional media pluralism, diversity, independence and professionalism was declared launched on October 19, 2023 formerly on behalf of the Secretary General of the EAC by Irene Isaka, Director of Social Sectors of the Community.

Symbolically Isaka  accompanied by  the Director of Information Services and Chief Government Spokesman, Mobhare Matinyi, unveiled the EAPC logo and later joined by top leaders of the Council released white doves  as part of  launching ceremony.

The chairperson of the East Africa Press Councils is Kajubi Mukajanga who is also the Executive Secretary of the Media Council of Tanzania, Vice Chairperson is David Kasanga of Media Council of Uganda,  Secretary  is David Omwoyo  of the Media Council of Kenya and Treasurer is Emmanuel Mugisha of Rwanda High Media Commission.

Somalia and Congo DRC are also members of EAPC.
