Mlimani TV presenter scoops EJAT 2020 overall winner spot

The Former Prime Minister and First Vice President, Joseph Sinde Warioba, presents a dummy cheque of TZS 3,000,000 to Adrian Nicholaus Mgaya the overall winner of the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2020.
Adrian Nicholaus Mgaya, a young journalist for Mlimani TV, is the overall winner of the Excellence in Journalism Award Tanzania for 2020.
The Chief Guest of the event, former Prime Minister and First Vice President, Joseph Sinde Warioba, announced Adrian as winner during the climax of the 2020 EJAT celebrations September 10, 2021 at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam.
To scoop the top spot in the competition , Adrian beat three other finalists – Sanula Athanas of Nipashe newspaper, Alfred Lasteck Mushi of Habari Leo newspaper and online and Veronica Romwald Mrema of Mataukio ya Maisha Blog.
A visibly emotionally overwhelmed Adrian could not hold back tears, as he spoke after he was announced the overall winner.
He thanked God, the organisers of EJAT, Mlimani TV for his victory and appealed to the youth to always keep on trying to attain success.
He won three categories -Best Cameraman, Health Reporting and Innovation and Development.
As for the other finalists for the overall title – Sanula Renatus Athanas won Education Reporting, Tourism and Conversation and Human Rights and Good Governance categories, Veronica Romwald Mrema won the Health Reporting and Open categories while Alfred Lasteck Mushi prevailed in the Gender and Gas, Oil and Mines categories.
Severinus Mwijage Sylvanus of Sunrise Radio won the economy, business and finance category for radio.
Abubakar Khatibu Haji of ZBC radio was declared winner for Sport and Culture category while for Television- the winner was Projetus Kamugisha Binamungu of Star TV and for online media the winner was Suzan Gregory Moshy of Matukio Daima on line.
The Agriculture and Agribusiness category for print media was won Haika Estomiki Kamaro of the Citizen while Zuwena Shame of The Guardian trailed as runners up.
For Radio Regina Patrick Kulindwa of Radio SAUT Mwanza was the winner while Karim Issa Faida of Jamii FM Mtwara was runners up and Hilda Ephraim Kinabo of Radio 5 Arusha was second runners up.
Jamaly Hashim Said of UTV won the Agriculture and Agribusiness category for TV.
Fatuma Mustapha Mtemangani of Radio Ulanga FM won the Education category for Radio and for TV the winner for the category was John Maganga Petro of Mlimani TV while Hawa Bihoga of DW Kiswahili was runners up.
For online media the winner for the category was Daniel Samson Mwalubili of nukta website while Stanlus Bernard Lambert of Dar 24 Blog was a runners up.
Radio Mazingira presenter Thomas Masalu Lunyalo won the Tourism and Conservation award while Daniel Festo Kija of CGTN won it for TV.
Investigative Reporting category award went to Elizabeth Cornery Zaya of Nipashe newspaper while veteran journalist Simon Martha Mkina of Jamii Forum won the award for online media.
Rajabu Mustafa Mrope of Pangani FM, Tanga won Data Journalism award while Martha Brother Sembo was runners up and for online media, the award went to Rodgers Raphael George.
Lucy Eppimark Lalika of UFM radio scooped the Human Rights and Good Governance award for Radio trailed by Florentina Ryner Nyambuko of CG FM, Tabora.
Nipashe newspaper photographer Jumanne Juma Rusambi beat Majira newspaper Suleiman Abeid Hassan to claim the Best Photographer award.
David Chikoko of the Guardian/Nipashe newspapers defeated colleague Muhidin Ally Msamba for the Best Cartoonist award.
Habari Leo journalist Alfred Lasteck Mushi won Gender and Children award leaving Henry Harold Mwangonde of the Guardian as first runners up and Elizabeth Corney Zaya of Nipashe second runners up.
Rehema William Ruhotora of radio Kwizera won the Gender and Children award for Radio as Adam Gabriel Hando trailed as runners up and Vivian Pyuza second runners up.
Kisali Soud Simba of Star TV picked the award for TV while Stanslus Baernard Lambert won the Gender and Children award for online media.
The gas Oil and Mining award went to Mohamed Mustafa Mchokoleka of UFM Radio and Alfred Lasteck Mushi of Habari Leo on line won for online media.
Warioba Igombe Warioba of Uhuru newspaper won the award for people with disability and for the Radio the award went to Paul Christian Kagenze of Voice of Tabora while for TV James
Husna Mohamed Khamis of Zanzibar Leo emerged winner in Reporting Category Health award while Warioba Igombe Warioba trailed as first runners-upand Christina Stephen Mwakangale – Nipashe second runners up.
For Radio the winner was Selemani Edward Mahinya of Mlimani Radio Dar es Salaam leaving two other finalist in the category Regina Patrick Kulindwa of Radio SAUT trailing as runner up and Amina Deogratius Samagogwa of Radio Kwizera second runners up.
Innovation and Development category had winner and runners up only for TV. While the winner was Adrian Nicholas Mgaya of Mlimani TV the runners up were Isaac Mtwevila Lukando of China Global Television Network and child contestant Hadija Halifa Sadiki reporting for DW Kiswahili.
Despite emerging as second runners, Hadija was presented a trophy and certificate by the Chairperson of the EJAT Organising Committee, Kajubi Mukajanga in recognition of her efforts and participation in the competition.
Mukajanga who is also the Executive Secretary of MCT, the lead partner in EJAT, said it was quite impressive that Hadija’s attempt to win the award reflected what she wishes to become.
She was given a standing ovation by the audience after her name was called out and went to collect the special trophy and certificate.
The 13 year old child took a photo with the Mukajanga and later with the Official Guest of the event, former Prime Minister and Second Vice President, Warioba and chairperson of the Ethics Committee of (MCT), retired High Court Judge, Robert Makaramba.
The Road Safety category award went to Agusta Mathias Njoji of Nipashe newspaper with Daily News journalists Deogratius Samwel Kamagi and James Lutatinibwa Kamala trailing as first and second runners up.
Menstrual Health award went to Renatha Kigosi Msungu and for Radio the award was won by Amina Deogratius Samagogwa of Radio Kwizera while Adam Gabriel Hando was runners up.
Mary Geofrey Mashina of Nipashe won the open category award for print media with Jennifer Julius Gilla of the Guardian and Harrieth Isaya Makweta of Mwananchi trailing as first and second runners-up.
Adam Gabriel Hhando of CG FM Tabora emerged winner for open category for radio while Silvano Alphonce Kayera of Mlimani Radio trailed as runners up.
Open category award for TV went to Benston Eustace of Clouds Media while Mkwaji Reuben Masatu of UTV and Projestusi Binamungu of Star TV toed as first and second runners.
EJAT is an annual event to recognise media practitioners for outstanding performance.
Before the end of the event on September 10, the Chief Guest former Prime Minister and First Vice President in company of Chairperson of the Ethics Committee of MCT Judge Makaramba launched EJAT 2021 by displaying the competition’s entry forms.
