Two contestants emerge overall winners of EJAT 2019
Halili Habibu Letea of Mwananchi newspaper and Hilda Amedhastone Phoya of Mlimani TV are the overall winners for the 11th edition of the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2019.
The two were presented trophies, certificates and dummy cheques of TZS Three million each by the Tanga Regional Commissioner, Martin Shigela during the event’s gala night held at Tanga Beach Resort on September 28, 2020.
This is a second time two overall winners emerge in EJAT.
In 2014 Lucas Liganga and Mkinga Mkinga both from the Citizen newspaper were the overall winners after their joint entry exposing the Tegeta escrow account scandal won highest points in the competition.
Other winners in EJAT 2019 are Neema Jua Goyayi of AFM Radio Dodoma and Fatma Abdalla Chikawe of Azam TV who picked awards in the Sports and Culture category for TV and Radio respectively.
The Open Category Award went to Amina Semagogwa from Radio Kwizera and Sauli Gilliad of Daily News.
A new category in the Awards Adverse Effect of Chemical to Health and Environment – Print went to Gwamaka Alipipi of Nipashe newspaper for TV the Award was won by the late TV presenter of ITV, Agnes John Almasi. Deogratias Damian Macha of Fountain Radio won the award for Radio.
Business, Economy and Finance Reporting Award for TV has been won by Hilda Amedhastone Phoya of Mlimani TV while for Radio the award went to Asha Ahmed Omar of Chuchu FM Zanzibar.
Halili Habibu Letea of The Citizen won the Oil, Gas, and Mining Governance Reporting Award while Sanula Athanas of Nipashe scooped the Tourism and Conservation Reporting Award and Rajabu Mustapha Mrope of Pangani FM won the award for Radio. Sanula Athanas of Nipashe also won award for Good governance Reporting Category for print.
Joseline Joseph Kitakwa of TBC FM won the Agriculture and Agri – business Reporting Award for Radio, Jamaly Hashim Said of Azam TV emerged winner for TV and Baraka Jailos Messa of Habari Leo won the award for print media.
Khamis Suleiman Said of Channel Ten won the Best Cameraman Award while Abdul Kingo of The Guardian won the Best Editorial Cartoonist Category- Print
Adella Herry Tillya of EFM and Agnes Aggrey Mbapu of TBC emerged winners of Sexual and Reproductive Health Reporting Award for radio and TV respectively with Christina Stephen Mwakangale of Nipashe winning it for print media.
Education Reporting Award for Radio went to Anord Jovine Kailembo of Radio Kwizera, Faraja Sendegeya of Azam TV emerged winner for TV and Halili Habibu Letea of Mwananchi for print.
Two journalists from Radio Sauti Yohanne Gwangway and Dominic Mrimi won the Data Journalism Reporting Award for Radio and for print the award went to Halili Habibu Letea of Mwananchi.
Habari Leo’s Alfred Lasteck Mushi won the Investigative Journalism Award.
Herieth Isaya Makwetta and Godfrey Kahango both from Mwananchi newspaper won the Children Reporting Award for print while Hilda Amedhastone Phoya of Mlimani TV won the award for TV.
Another new category of Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management Reporting was won by Rehema Goodluck Matowo of Mwananchi newspaper, Faraja Sendegeya of Azam TV and Adam Gabriel Hhando of CG FM.
The Gender Reporting Award was won by Rahma.J Ali of Zanzibar Leo and Hadija Omari Nasoro of Voice of Tabora.
Road Safety Reporting Award for print went to Crispin Samson of The Guardian, Hilda Amedhastone Phoya of Mlimani TV and Anord Jovine Kailembo of Kwizera Radio…
Award for Innovations for Human Development Reporting which is also a new category introduced for the 2019 EJAT for Radio the award was won by Philip Clement Mwihava of Clouds FM and Tatu Abdullah Kazimoto of TBC1 for TV.
